Assistant head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, David Ocloo, has tasked referees to be fair when officiating games.
He said this in a post game interview after Kotoko lost 1-0 to Kpando Heart of Lions in the opening game of the second round of the 2023-2024 Ghana Premier League season. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
The Porcupine Warriors lost the game as Godfred Kwadwo Asamoah scored the only goal of the tie in the 52nd minute after slotting home a cross from inside the penalty box with a tidy left foot finish.
Nicholas Mensah got sent off six minutes after Kotoko conceded the goal to compound the problem of the Kumasi lads.
Speaking after the game, David Ocloo congratulated Lions for registering four points in two games against Kotoko but bemoaned the level of officiating in the game.
“I can’t take anything from them. They played very well, they were very determined and they got the result. If we want football to go forward our referees have to be up there, they have to be fair.”
Kotoko sit third in the league while Lions climb to 15th at the time of writing.
