Newly appointed Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has highlighted the experience he gained with the Black Stars as an interim head coach after his appointment was confirmed today.
Addo led Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as interim head coach after replacing Milovan Rajevac who got sacked in the wake of Ghana’s disastrous 2021 AFCON campaign.
Ghana drew goalless with Nigeria in Kumasi and drew 1-1 with The Super Eagles in Abuja to qualify to the FIFA World Cup for the fourth time via the advantage of the away goal rule.
In Qatar, the Black Stars beat South Korea 3-2 but lost 2-3 to Portugal and 0-2 to Uruguay respectively to crash out in the first round.
Speaking after getting handed a 34 month contract with an option to extend for a further 24 months, the former Black Stars player said,
“It is a great privilege to be able to take on the role of head coach of my national team. I’ve already gained a lot of experience in this role as interim coach and I’m looking forward to the task that lies ahead of me from the summer.”
Addo played for Ghana at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and has worked extensively as a Borussia Dortmund assistant coach.
His immediate tasks are international friendly games against Uganda and Nigeria.
