President of Ghana’s National Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen has urged corporate entities in Ghana to rally behind para-athletes, supporting them in their preparation for international competitions.
At a reception for four athletes and their coach returning from the 2024 International Para Athletics Grand Prix in Marrakech, Morocco, Deen emphasized the importance of motivation and inspiration for Ghana’s para-athletes to excel further in global championships.
Deen commended medalists Zinabu Issah and Edmund Govina, with Govina achieving a personal best in the F46/F44/F68 Discus Throw, earning a bronze with a distance of 18.04 meters, and also participating in the T46 Javelin Men, securing 6th position with a personal best throw of 21.81 meters.
Zinabu Issah showcased exceptional performance, clinching two gold medals for Ghana in Discus Throw and Shot Put.
Other notable achievements include Amos Ahiagah’s personal bests in the T46 100 meters for Men (12.63 seconds), T46 400 meters for Men (1:04.02), and T46 Long Jump for Men (5.14 meters).
Diana Kuubetegr set an African record in the T46 800-meter Women with a personal best time of 2:50 and achieved a personal best of 6:12.65 in the T46 1500 Women.
Coach Ibrahim Sulemana expressed that with better preparations, the team could have achieved even greater success and called upon the media to promote para sports.
Additionally, four coaches, including Patrick Yaw Obeng and Ernest Brako Ofei, received classification certificates at the ceremony.

Looking ahead, the athletics team will undergo intensive training in preparation for the Paris 2024 Grand Prix, aiming to secure qualification for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Furthermore, Tahiru Haruna will lead the Black Optimist Para Powerlifting Team to the Mexico 2024 Parapan American World Cup scheduled from May 23rd to 26th, 2024.
