In the wake of major backlash over the poor state of the Baba Yara Stadium playing surface, Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member, Eugene Nobel Noel, has called for football venues to have hybrid pitches.
The Baba Yara Stadium hosted Ghana’s 4-3 win over Central African Republic (CAR) in a game that had Jordan Ayew score the first Black Stars hat trick since 2017.
However, the pitch came under serious scrutiny since Black Stars captain Thomas Partey called on Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to aid in the provision of a better pitch at the stadium. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
On the subject, Eugene Nobel stated that, “After the game, there was a discussion about this pitch issue. We are of the opinion that we have to have one or two stadia where we can have modern pitches where we can have this hybrid type of pitch to improve our game.”

Ghana’s back to back wins (beat Mali 2-1 before playing against CAR) has moved the Black Stars to Group I’s summit with three wins in four games.
