Paris 2024: Abdul-Rasheed Saminu finishes seventh in Men’s 100 Metres Semis; misses qualification to finals

Ghana sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu won’t compete in the 2024 Olympic Games Men’s 100 Metre Finals after finishing seventh in the last of three Heats in the event.

Saminu, who is competing in the Olympics for the first time, run a time of 10.05 seconds which was slightly faster than the time he qualified with to the semis (10.06 seconds).

Heat 3 had Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson finish first in a time of 9.80 seconds ahead of former World Champion Fred Kerley who finished second with a time of 9.83 seconds. South Africa’s Benjamin Richardson completed the top three with a time of 9.95 seconds.

Africa’s fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, finished eighth behind Saminu with a time of 10.08 seconds.

Fellow Ghanaian Sprinter, Benjamin Azamati, finished ninth in Heat One with a time of 10.17 seconds in a race that had Jamaica’s Oblique Seville and reigning World Champion Noah Lyles qualify to the finals. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Akani Simbine of South Africa and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo will represent Africa in the finals after finishing first and second respectively in Heat Two.

Defending Olympic Champion Marcel Jacobs finished third in the Heat Two but qualified to the finals alongside fourth place finisher Kenneth Bednarek as the athletes with the two fastest non automatic qualification times.
