Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati and Abdul-Sameed Saminu have qualified to compete in the Men’s 100 Metre Heat in the semifinal stage of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The pair is part of a 10 man contingent from the African continent that will compete in the penultimate stage of the renowned event at the Stade De France. The semifinals will take place on Sunday, August 4 at 18:05 GMT.
Azamati, Ghana’s record holder, qualified from the previous heat in a time of 10.08 seconds, finishing in second place behind Kishane Thompson of Jamaica who run a time of 10.00 seconds. Thompson is the fastest man this year after running 9.77 seconds.(Click highlighted text to read full story)
Saminu run a time of 10.06 seconds to finish third in his heat behind Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi and Marcel Jacobs of Italy who is the defending Olympic Champion. Saminu’s fastest time this year is 10.02 seconds. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
In the upcoming event, Nigeria has Ajayi and Favour Ashe competing with South Africa having Akani Simbine, Benjamin Richardson and Shawn Maswanganyi.
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala and Emmanuel Esme of Cameroon round up the list.
High profile names like Noah Lyles, Fred Kerley and Oblique Seville of Jamaica have qualified to feature in the semis.
