Head coach of Ghana’s Under 20 National Women’s Football Team (the Black Princesses), Yussif Basigi, has called for his team to polish on its finishing to stay in contention for a spot in the Round of 16 stage at the 2024 FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup.
Ghana lost 2-1 to Austria with Ghana conceding as early as the 12th minute before Stella Nyamekye scored late in added on time for a consolation goal.
The loss means that Ghana has lost its last 10 games at the Women’s Under 20 World Cup; the Black Princesses haven’t progressed beyond the group stage despite competing in six straight World Cup editions.
After losing the opening game of its campaign to the World Cup debutant, Basigi bemoaned his team’s profligacy and called for an improvement in that area.
“We didn’t utilise many of our goal-scoring chances which was unfortunate. I think this is where we have to polish very well so that we will be able to be back in contention.”

Ghana takes on former Under 20 World Cup Champions Japan on Thursday, September 5 at 22:00 GMT.
