Former Black Queens defender Faustina Ampah has expressed her frustration with the authorities and stakeholders in women’s football, accusing them of prioritizing immediate results over addressing critical issues such as player welfare.
Ampah’s remarks come ahead of Ghana’s participation in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 5 to 26, 2025.
The Black Queens have been drawn into Group C, where they will face defending champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania in a challenging test.

While Ampah commended Head Coach Nora Häuptle for her remarkable work with the senior women’s national team since taking the helm, she urged football authorities to shift their focus beyond short-term objectives.
She emphasized the need to prioritize the welfare of players to ensure sustainable success for the team.
She spoke in an exclusive interview with CitiSports.
at least once in a while I do see some stuffs and to be honest, I think the coach is doing a great job.
I don’t know what she’s doing and the things they are providing her but maybe she’s a white coach so whatever she says they do it.
So I think there’s been some improvements in her role as a coach but there’s been because there are so many challenges in the team which we the players to go through.
People always want to see results results results but they don’t think about what goes behind the scenes and what we players go through, but nonetheless that she’s [Nora Hauptle] is doing great.
