Dutch international wing back of Ghanaian descent, Jeremie Frimpong, has named Ghanaian players he looked up to while growing up.
The Bayer Leverkusen player named Michael Essien, the late Christian Atsu and the Ayew brothers (Jordan and Andre) as players he admired as a youngster.
He made this revelation in an interview after having a kick around with young players from low tier side Taking Over FC in Dansoman, Accra while on holiday in Ghana.
Earlier in the day, the 24 year old donated food, drinks and toiletries to the Osu Children’s Home and added that he has always wanted to help the less privileged in society. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
“For me, Michael Essien…Christian Atsu, Jordan, the Ayew brothers. The one that really caught my eye was 2010 World Cup, Ghana got into the quarterfinals with Uruguay, all the players there (impressed me)” Frimpong said of Ghanaian players who caught his eye early on.

Frimpong won the Bundesliga and German Cup in the 2023-2024 season. Scroll down to watch Jeremie Frimpong video.
