Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has stated that he does not see the current GFA President, Kurt Okraku, as an enemy, though he believes Kurt Okraku may perceive him as one.
In an exclusive interview with Channel One Sports, George Afriyie reflected on Ghana’s recent failures in football, including the Black Stars’ disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign, which saw the nation miss out on Morocco 2025. This was further compounded by Ghana’s absence from the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be hosted in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania in August 2025.
Afriyie highlighted Ghana’s struggles under Kurt Okraku’s administration, citing back-to-back AFCON group stage exits and other pressing issues facing the Ghana Football Association.
These include the declining interest in the Ghana Premier League due to poor coverage and inadequate engagement with fans.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the current state of Ghana football, George Afriyie offered to assist Kurt Okraku in addressing these challenges to bring renewed hope to the football community.
He reiterated that, contrary to public perception, he does not view Okraku as an enemy and is open to working with him for the betterment of Ghana football.
“Kurt Okraku has never been my enemy, maybe he and his people see me as such, but I am ready to help Kurt Okraku this year, I am ready to help him” – George Afriyie.
