In a rare show of unity, Ghanaian football giants Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko SC have joined forces to address security challenges at match venues in the Ghana Premier League.
The two clubs have jointly prepared a statement for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), calling for urgent reforms to ensure the safety of players, officials, and fans.
This move comes in the wake of the tragic loss of Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, a devoted Asante Kotoko supporter during Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman.
Pooley’s passing has reignited discussions about stadium security and the need for stringent measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The clubs recognize that football, while passionate and intense, should never be a platform for violence or unsafe conditions.

At a high-level meeting in Accra, Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and representatives from the Hearts of Oak Board, engaged in detailed discussions about the state of the league.
Their primary concern was the security lapses that have led to unfortunate incidents, including Pooley’s tragic death. The clubs underscored their commitment to ensuring that stadiums become safer spaces for fans and stakeholders alike.
The Hearts of Oak Board took the opportunity to extend condolences to Asante Kotoko and pledged their support in making sure Pooley’s passing was not in vain.
Both clubs have vowed to work together, alongside government agencies, law enforcement, and the GFA, to implement stronger security protocols and stricter regulations at match venues.
