Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Wilfred Osei popularly known in Ghana’s football circles as “Palmer”, has described recently appointed Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schafer as a good coach.

Palmer added that the veteran German coach was on the radar of the GFA Executive Council he served on as a potential head coaching candidate.

He said this while speaking on the recent changes to technical team of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, the Black Stars, in an interview with Sporty FM.

“The technical direction in the team has changed. Winfried Schafer is a good coach; even during our time we had planned to bring him on board” Palmer said and proceeded to dismiss concerns over Schafer’s inactivity since he last coached in 2021 stating “Somebody who is technically good is technically good.”

AFCON winning coach Schafer was hired to aid Black Stars head coach Otto Addo steer Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup after the Black Stars failed to qualify to the 2025 AFCON.
