President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that all expenditure on national sports teams will be accounted for and added that there won’t be any secret expenditure in his government.

President Mahama said this in his first State of the Nation Address to Ghana’s Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic delivered on Thursday, February 27.

Aside stating that a National Recreation Day will be celebrated monthly with a National Recreation Festival to be celebrated annually, President Mahama touched on how the nature of expenditure to sports will be carried out in his second term as President of Ghana. “There will be no secrecy in how much the government spends on the national teams. The budgets presented by the GFA (Ghana Football Association) and other sports associations must be known by the public.”

GFA President Kurt Okraku

“After all, it is the taxpayers funds that are used to fund these activities. The reduction in government expenditure and waste reduction applies to all sectors of the economy including the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.”
