Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku led a high powered entourage from the GFA to attend the funeral of popular Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club fan Francis Yaw “Nana Pooley” Frimpong.
The funeral took place on Thursday, March 6 at the Heroes Park at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi with a host of dignitaries in attendance.
GFA Executive Council Members including GFA Vice President Mark Addo, James Kwesi Appiah and Frederick Acheampong were present for the funeral.
Interim Management Committee Chairman of Kotoko, Nana Apinkra Awuah, headlined Kotoko’s delegation present at the final funeral rites of Pooley.
Other personalities connected to Kotoko including former Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu and former Kotoko Board Chairman Kwame Kyei also attended the funeral.

Francis Frimpong was stabbed when violent clashes erupted during Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) game against Nsoatreman at Nsoatre and later died from the stab wounds in February 2025.

His death sent shock waves through Ghana’s football ranks and competition in the GPL was halted as a result. Several meetings between the GFA and key stakeholders like the Ghana Police Service were held in the aftermath of Pooley’s death aiming to improve security and safety at league venues.

Competition in the GPL is set to resume this weekend with Kotoko scheduled to play against Legon Cities on Sunday, March 9 at the Baba Yara Stadium.
