Coach Otoo, a member of Edinaman Senior High’s coaching department, has credited Portia Nkrumah’s remarkable performance at the Central Regional Super zonal to a crucial decision; transitioning from long-distance running to sprints.
Initially joining Edinaman as a long-distance runner, Portia was encouraged by Coach Otoo to make the switch based on her physique, a decision that has already yielded impressive results in her first major sprint competition. She dominated the female category, winning both the 200m and 400m events.

She came to the school as a long distance runner and being part of the coaching team, i saw the potential in her. i told her to switch from long distance to short distance and sprints because of her stature and she understood and agreed to it. This is the first time she is competing as a short distance and tasting sprint.
Coach Otoo also highlighted the strong connection between Edinaman Senior High and Junior High Schools, emphasizing how the school identifies and nurtures young talent.
We have some coaches in the Junior High Level that we normally work with. Portia for instance was brought to the school by one of the Junior High Coaches we work with so anytime we do get athletes from the Junior Level, we take it from there.

Beyond developing young athletes, the school is committed to advancing their careers, both locally and internationally.
We have some links outside the country, USA especially so the dream is that if she does well as she is doing now, then we will see as a Department. we also have some links with some universities in Ghana here i.e. Legon, UCC, Winneba that we give them athletes.

Edinaman Senior High School claimed second place in the women’s division at the Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools and Colleges competition, finishing behind Efutu SHS. Their impressive performance reaffirms Edinaman’s strong presence in the athletics space among senior high schools in Ghana.
