Former Minister for Youth and Sports Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has firmly stated that he has no interest in weightlifting or any matters related to the Ghana Weightlifting Federation.
His comments come in response to allegations from former president of the federation, Jerry Shaib, who accused him of using alleged National Security personnel to push his agenda within the sport.
In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, Vanderpuye dismissed the claims, emphasizing that he has no interest in the hierarchy of the federation and finds it unnecessary.
My interest in sports is only to be a fan of sports for now and not really as anyone with interest about who is a president of a federation or who is a president of the Ghana Olympic Committee or Ghana Athletics Federation. I’m no more interested in those things.

I think I have been given a responsibility by the president and I must focus on that and discharge that responsibility. So why would I be interested in what happens with Weightlifting?
On March 27, the Ghana Weightlifting Federation, through its administrator Seth Degbe Avayi, issued a press statement declaring that the federation had no sitting president or board members.
The announcement came amid ongoing leadership disputes and internal wrangling within the federation, further deepening uncertainty about its governance structure.
