Following the disruption of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation’s electoral congress on March 8 at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium, President Jerry Shaib has stated that he is awaiting guidance from the International Weightlifting Federation on a new date for the elections.
Shaib revealed in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports that the international governing body had already issued a warning against external interference in the federation’s affairs.
“My General Assembly serves as my board, and if they decide we should proceed, I am fine with that. However, I will still wait for the International Weightlifting Federation to issue a formal directive in writing. That way, I will be in a stronger position to address any challenges that may arise” Jerry Shaib said.

The disruption of the electoral congress, meant to elect new executives for the Ghana Weightlifting Federation, has sparked concerns about political interference in sports governance.
