Board Chairman of Medeama Sporting Club, Dr. Tony Aubynn, is adamant that Ghana football’s success at the top level is heavily dependent on the Ghana Premier League.
He said this in an exclusive interview on Channel One TV’s Point of View while discussing varied issues including matters on illegal mining in Ghana popularly known as Galamsey.
Dr. Aubynn’s comments come at a time that the Ghana League has been largely condemned for its apparent lack of quality, poor spectatorship and organization with the bulk of the blame pinned on Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku.
However, the veteran administrator believes that the country’s football success rests on how viable the league is by stating,
“If the league is not doing well, obviously we are not going to do well at the top and I don’t think we should pin it on one or two persons because they run a club.”

“They also have invested… so there is more to it than one person being singled out for the entire problem. I believe that we need to invest in football”.

Dr. Aubynn’s Medeama won the Ghana League in the 2022-2023 season, recently moved into the plush TNA Stadium in Tarkwa and rank fifth in the 2024-2025 season ahead of a tie against Vision FC on May 4.
