Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has reiterated the call for justice to individuals involved in the death of Kumasi Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw “Pooley” Frimpong.
He made this call in his address delivered at the 24th May 9 Observation at the Accra Sports Stadium to remember the devastating stampeded that claimed the life of 127 people during a game between rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kotoko in 2001.
Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams and executives of the GFA, Hearts and Kotoko and fans of Kotoko and Hearts were present at the event.
Pooley was stabbed at a Ghana Premier League game between Nsoatreman and Kotoko at Nsoatre and died later from his stab wounds in February, 2025 and the GFA President once again rallied for justice for Pooley.
“I use this opportunity to encourage the Police Service not to renege on their chase to bring to justice the people who caused us to lose Pooley. Justice for Pooley is still relevant as we continue with this journey of remembering the 127 plus souls that we lost here on this soil.”

The Ghana Premier League in the 2024-2025 season was halted for multiple weeks after Pooley’s death to enforce security measures at game venues.
