Ghana Black Stars forward Inaki Williams has been officially named as the main captain of Spanish La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.
The veteran forward will lead the club as the leader for the 2025-2026 season with the confirmation coming in the wake of Oscar De Marcos’ departure from Bilbao.
Williams has been in the news recently after winning the La Liga African Player of the Year Award for the second time in a row while hoping Bilbao have a good campaign in the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign after finishing fourth in the league standings. The Black Stars forward scored six goals and added eight assists in 35 league appearances in the immediate past season for the only club he has played for in his professional career.
On the captaincy change, Bilbao stated on their official Twitter (formerly X) page, “At your orders…Captain Kwaku. Congratulations Inaki Williams! We know you will lead our Lions with passion and pride.”

Williams has registered 111 goals and 66 assists in 471 games in all competitions since breaking through in the 2014-2015 season.
