A Member of Ghana’s Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Lawrencia Dziwornu, has described the Black Queens’ qualification to the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON semifinals as a monumental feat.
She said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports in the aftermath of Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team’s qualification to the continental championship’s final four.
Ghana beat Algeria 4-2 via a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals in dramatic fashion; this was Ghana’s first appearance in the knockout stage of the AFCON since 2016. The Black Queens haven’t reached the semifinals since finishing third in the 2016 AFCON.
After seeing Ghana recover from losing 2-0 to defending champions South Africa in the opening game to setting up a semifinal clash against host nation Morocco on Tuesday, July 22 at 19:00 GMT, Lawrencia Dziwornu, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South, described the Black Queens campaign as monumental stating,

This is a historic victory for us, it’s such a monumental feat breaking the nine year hiatus. This is really something that gives us hope that indeed if all is put in place, we have the chance to lift the cup.”
