Ghana’s national arm-wrestling team, the Golden Arms, have departed for Abuja, Nigeria, to compete in the upcoming Africa Arm-wrestling Championship, buoyed by confidence, corporate support, and a mission to raise the national flag even higher.
The team held a final media workout earlier today at the Junior Officers Mess in Accra, where athletes demonstrated their readiness ahead of the continental showdown.
Speaking at the session, team captain Edward Yamoah Asamoah expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances, highlighting the months of intensive training.
We’ve prepared from day one till now. We’re hoping and promising that we’ll bring medals home. It won’t be an easy journey, but with God on our side, we believe we’ll make Ghana proud

In a boost to the team’s morale and logistics, GLICO Life has committed GHS 100,000 to support the Golden Arms’ campaign in Abuja. The package includes accident cover for all athletes and air travel arrangements.
Acting Chief Sales Officer of GLICO Life, Benjamin Avickson, said the gesture aligns with the company’s drive to promote lesser-known sports and provide equal opportunities for emerging disciplines.
As part of our corporate social responsibility, we’re supporting arm-wrestling to show that every sport; no matter how small deserves recognition.
Ghanaians know we’ve supported the Black Stars, but it’s time we also champion the ‘lesser’ sports that continue to win laurels for the country.

Interestingly, over 70 percent of the Golden Arms athletes are active members of the Ghana Police Service; a statistic that speaks volumes about the synergy between discipline, service, and sports.
ASP Bernice Rashida, Head of Sports at the Ghana Police Service, explained that the dominance of police athletes in the squad reflects the core values of the service.

We serve with integrity, and that spirit runs through everything we do; including sports. Our officers are trained to give their all, and when they compete, it shows.
That’s why more than 20 of the team members, including women, come from the Ghana Police Service.
The team’s departure follows an impressive haul of over 40 medals at the last All African Games in 2023, and they are determined to surpass that feat in Abuja.
With medals, pride, and national honour at stake, Ghana’s Golden Arms are poised to deliver yet another golden performance.
