Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has praised the efforts of midfielder Grace Asantewaa as Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, continue their remarkable 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON campaign.
Bjorkegren’s praise of Asantewaa came in the wake of Ghana’s 4-2 win over Algeria via penalties in the quarterfinals. Ghana played out a goalless draw with the North Africans at the end of regulation time and extra time.
For her outstanding efforts in the win over Algeria, Asantewaa was named as the Woman of the Match, and Ghana’s head coach couldn’t agree more with the honour.
“She [Grace Asantewaa] has been stepping up in every game that we have been playing. It seems that if a game is more important, she is going to play even better. That’s really important for us.”

“Both her and [Jennifer] Cudjoe worked so hard. Normally, for a central midfielder, you cannot play 90 minutes or 120 minutes in a quarterfinal, but I couldn’t take out those two because they kept going and they did it so well especially Grace” Bjorkegren said via CAF.

Ghana take on host nation Morocco in the semifinals on Tuesday, July 22 at 19:00 GMT.
