Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has stated that his team were the better side prior to conceding the first of two goals against South Africa in the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON.

Ghana lost 2-0 to the defending champions in its opening game in the tournament with both goals conceded in the first half.

Speaking after the loss, Lars Bjorkegren said his team’s performance over all was good and it was the same until the Black Queens conceded the game’s first goal.

“I think we were the better team the first half hour until the penalty came. After that, we gave them the opportunity to score another one; that’s the problem a little bit when we lose concentration and give it [the ball] away too much but otherwise I think the performance was good.”

“I think we did many good things so if we take the good things with us into the next two [games] then I am pretty sure that we are going to make the playoffs and that’s the most important. I am a little disappointed over the results but not so disappointed over the performance” Bjorkegren said.
