Former Arsenal defender William Gallas is seemingly shocked over Thomas Partey’s exit from Arsenal and the Gunners subsequent move to replace the Ghana international.

Partey is a free agent his contract with Arsenal ended on June 30 after negotiations on a new deal to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium fell through.

Arsenal have reportedly signed Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard in the wake of Partey’s exit and former French player Gallas, who spent four seasons with Arsenal, was shocked over the development.

“I just don’t understand why Arsenal are signing Christian Norgaard and are letting Thomas Partey go. For me, it doesn’t make sense to then let him leave and spend £10m on a replacement that is a year younger.”

William Gallas working as a TV pundit for Sky Sports during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Arsenal FC at St. James Park on May 7, 2023 in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.

“I think it would have made more sense to keep Partey or sign a youngster, not go like for like with a new player that will have no sell-on value” Gallas told Prime Casino, as per the Mirror.

Partey is reportedly on the transfer radar of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Saudi Pro League teams.
