General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has assured that the BetPawa Locker Room Bonus initiative is not going anywhere.
Speaking at the official launch of the scheme, which now covers both male and female teams, Harrison Addo revealed that players will receive bonuses after each game and at the end of the season — a move designed to reward performance and boost morale.
It’s something we have been working on and pushing for some time now. The locker room bonus is an idea prepared and nurtured here in Ghana.
He explained that the innovation, developed in partnership with BetPawa, has already begun making waves across Africa.

“Like Borah said, it puts the investment directly into the playing body and technical team. That’s why the GFA is so excited about it,”
The initiative started with the men’s competitions, but the GFA was eager to extend it to the women’s game. Last season, it was successfully piloted in the Women’s FA Cup from the Round of 16 to the final.
“We wanted equal treatment, so the women now get the same bonus as the men,” Harrison Addo noted. “I remember at one point, we thought if we could even start with 100 cedis per match, we would take it. But now, both men and women are on the same level.

“We want the women’s league to get to the level of the men’s league and even beyond.” – Prosper Harrison Addo

For the GFA chief, the joy of the programme is not just in the figures but in the players’ reactions.
My favourite part is when you go into the locker rooms after matches and hear the cheers when the players realize the money is in
Harrison Addo added that the GFA remains committed to investing in players and promoting equality in Ghanaian football.
