2024 Olympic Champion Gabby Thomas has announced her withdrawal from competing in this year’s Athletics World Championships.

The World Championships will take place in Tokyo, Japan from September 13 to September 21 but Thomas won’t compete in the event after announcing her withdrawal due to injury.

Thomas, who won three gold medals at the 2024 Olympics, has been dealing with an Achilles injury which has forced her to pull out of the upcoming event.

“I understand that it will be disappointing for some track fans to hear this news, but I’ve finally come to the realization that it’s ok to be human and take care of myself.”

“As an athlete you always want to keep grinding, but sometimes you simply can’t outwork an injury. Sometimes, it’s about patience and making the right decision for the long term. All the best to my Team USA teammates fighting for medals in Tokyo” Thomas said according to a press release.
