Sprint icon Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce has officially announced her retirement from professional athletics after a decorated career.
The Jamaican sprinter made the announcement via a statement on her Instagram page after competing in her final event-the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
In her final competition at the professional level, Fraser-Pryce won silver with Jamaica in the Women’s 4x 100 Metre Relay.
Over her historic career, the 38 year old won eight Olympic medals with three being gold, four being silver and one being bronze.
At the World Championships, Shelly-Ann won a whopping 10 gold medals, six silver medals and a bronze medal in her career. Announcing her retirement, a section of the sprint legend’s retirement statement read,

“The years I gave to sprinting will forever remain among the greatest of my life. This sport has given me joy beyond measure. It has shaped me, disciplined me, and carried me to heights I could only dream of as a young girl in Waterhouse.”
