Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has described midfielder Francis Abu’s injury that he picked up in an international friendly game as a really serious one.

Otto Addo made this known in a post-game interview after Ghana lost 2-0 to Japan in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup played on Friday, November 14.

Toulouse midfielder Abu suffered what apparently looked like a broken leg close to the ankle area after attempting to block a shot early in the second half.

Abu was stretchered off the field and replaced with Alidu Seidu with the change forcing Otto Addo to play Caleb Yirenkyi in midfield alongside Kwasi Sibo. Seidu slid into the right full back position.

Speaking after the game, Otto Addo commiserated with the injured Abu and talked about the severity of the incident.

“I’m a bit shocked because we had a very serious injury. I know this can happen in football but it was really serious and I just pray for him. Our prayers are with our player Francis Abu” Otto Addo said.

❤️ Wishing Abu Francis a speedy recovery! 🙏🏾

The #BlackStars family is with you every step of the way — stay strong, Abu! 💪🏾🇬🇭 pic.twitter.com/C79roCxCOx
