Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola isn’t ready to dwell too much on his club’s 2-1 loss to Newcastle United following the English Premier League’s return from the last international break of 2025.

In a very entertaining game that had both teams squander chances, English winger Harvey Barnes’ brace proved to be the difference for Newcastle who eased the pressure on manager Eddie Howe with the big win.

However, speaking in an interview with the BBC after the loss, Pep Guardiola didn’t place too much emphasis on the setback by stating,

“They had chances. We had chances. In the end they scored one more goal. Yes [the chances] were clear, but we have to score more goals. Our players have the ability and quality to do it.”

“We fought, the players were there, but we could not find the result” Guardiola said.

Responding to how much of a setback the loss was, Guardiola said, “The season is so long” ahead of Man City’s UEFA Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, November 25 at 20:00 GMT.
