Kofi Adams announces new E-Ticketing reforms to boost NSA Transparency and Revenue

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has disclosed that his ministry will soon roll out new measures to improve transparency and revenue generation at the National Sports Authority (NSA).

Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), the Minister said a new board will soon be inaugurated to oversee the proper implementation of the e-ticketing system for sporting events across the country.

According to him, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to end revenue leakages that have long plagued the management of Ghana’s sports facilities.

So there are a number of steps that we are also introducing. And when we improve networking, which we haven’t completely done yet, ticketing to our stadia facility during games time would no longer be 100% manual, where somebody can go and before you realize, some people are printing something else and selling that one other than the real ticket

He lamented how manual ticketing has created loopholes that allow for financial inconsistencies, despite huge turnouts at stadiums during major matches.

So you see the numbers at the stadium, but then when it comes to accounting for the money, less is presented. So we want to do some e-ticketing. That brings about a lot more transparency

Mr Adams explained that his ministry will ensure that all funds generated by the NSA follow the right financial procedures in line with Ghana’s Financial Regulations Act.

When the money gets into the coffers, is used must follow through the standard accounting procedures and the financial regulations act that exist in this country. So you can just take and spend anyhow. So where the threshold is way above, for example, the National Sports Authority, the ministry will have to come in and give the necessary approval

The Minister also revealed that a governing board for the NSA will soon be inaugurated to strengthen oversight and ensure accountability in the Authority’s operations.

Very soon also, we’ll inaugurate the board for the National Sports Authority, and they would also perform their appropriate duty. We will see to it that they perform what they are supposed to do, and to engender and improve the transparency and accountability processes, which the honorable member is so concerned about
