Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has responded to criticism after conceding twice in Nigeria’s latest win at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco by indicating that it hurts to concede.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria beat Tunisia 3-2 to book its place in the Round of 16 stage at the ongoing tournament; Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Wilfred Ndidi scored in the win.
Nigeria took a 3-0 lead but conceded twice late in the second half and held off a relentless attack from Tunisia to clinch the win.
However, Nigeria fans weren’t impressed with Nwabali’s performance particularly his role in Tunisia’s first goal but Nwabali says teams are bound to concede in tournaments like the AFCON.
“Tournaments like this, you are bound to concede goals, even the best teams in the world concede goals…so we really don’t wish to concede, we really wish to keep clean sheets.”

“It pains me a lot when I concede but we keep going as a team” Nwabali said to Football Temple.

Nigeria take on Uganda on Tuesday, December 30 at 16:00 GMT.
