South Africa National Men’s Football Team head coach Hugo Broos says he isn’t impressed with the 2025 AFCON ambiance in Morocco.
The Belgian coach made this clear in his statement to the press after South Africa lost 1-0 to Egypt in controversial fashion as Mohamed Salah converted a penalty to give Egypt the win.
South Africa head into the final round of games needing a win or a draw against Zimbabwe to stand a chance of qualifying to the Round of 16 stage.
While commenting on the upcoming game, Broos delivered an underwhelming review of the “excitement” associated with the AFCON in Morocco by stating to SABC Sport that,
“In the Ivory Coast and in Gabon, every second of the tournament you felt that you were in a tournament.”

“The people were – when we went with the bus to train – the people were waving and they were with flags, and here you see nothing.”

“So, I don’t know, but yeah, there is no vibe, there is no typical AFCON vibe. I don’t feel it here.”

Ivory Coast and Gabon hosted the AFCON in 2024 and 2021 respectively.
