Arsenal FC captain Martin Odegaard has come under heavy criticism over his performance with some Arsenal supporters calling for the captain armband to be taken from him.
Odegaard’s performance in Arsenal’s 3-2 loss to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium was widely condemned at a time where former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has called for the captain armband to be handed to Declan Rice.
However, speaking in a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League group stage game against Kazakhstan club Kairat on Wednesday, January 28, Arteta backed Odegaard as the perfect player for the captaincy role.
“Martin is a fantastic guy around the changing room. He’s well liked and respected. Discipline and standards, he’s also one of the people who walks the walk. The armband couldn’t sit on a better person than him.”

Arsenal lead the Champions League standings after winning all seven games and have qualified to the Round of 16 stage ahead of the game.
