Chief coordinator and public relations officer of the Ashanti Regional Sports Federation, Samuel Otoo, has stated that individuals recently arrested at the Ashanti Region’s Super Zonal Athletics Championships were not students but rather imposters who posed as students. (Scroll down to watch video)
He said this in an interview with Citi Sports as investigations continue into disturbances that took place during the regional competition recently.
The chaos followed a trend of violent acts in senior high school sports gatherings in Ghana that led to a student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School getting stabbed.
Shedding more light on the incident that took place in Kumasi at the Baba Yara Stadium, the chief coordinator said the individuals arrested were not students of Islamic Senior High School as reported earlier.

“On Thursday… six students of Islamic (SHS) were arrested and when they were taken to the police station, it was there we realized that they are not students of that school but rather took the uniforms from their friends and put it on and came to the stadium to misbehave.”

“The next day, three students were also arrested, they were not students but they put Islamic uniform on…those students caught has given a clue that most of the students who normally attend the event, some of them are not students” Samuel Otoo said.
