President John Dramani Mahama has urged stakeholders to ensure consistency and transparency in the release of expenditure on sporting events.

He made the call while addressing a fundraising event for the World Cup Fund, as Ghana’s Black Stars gear up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June.

The remarks come in the wake of concerns raised by the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, over what he described as excessive scrutiny of the team’s budget.

Speaking at the event, which was also attended by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem and Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, President Mahama said,

“Ghanaians have the right to know how their resources are being utilized and corporate partners deserve transparency before they will agree to invest.”

“I commend the Minister for Sports and Recreation to maintain this standard but we need to be more consistent in releasing information about how much we spend as a country on our sporting activities” President Mahama said.
