Ghana’s Paralympic team has received a major boost ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, after securing three more qualification slots in Para Athletics. This takes the overall quota to five.
In a statement released by the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, the committee confirmed that the places were earned through a mix of strong ranking performances and a bipartite invitation, reflecting steady progress on the international stage.
Hayford Addai led the charge on the track, booking his place in the Men’s 100m T47 after running 11.09 seconds, which placed him sixth on the Commonwealth rankings. In the field events, Zinabu Issah secured qualification in the Women’s Shot Put F57 with a throw of 8.66 metres, finishing 4th.

Three-time Paralympian Bostyo Nkegbe completed the trio of qualifiers after earning a bipartite slot, extending his experience to a fourth Commonwealth Games appearance.

The latest success builds on earlier qualifications in Para Swimming and Para Powerlifting, strengthening Ghana’s presence across multiple disciplines heading into Glasgow 2026.
According to the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, the focus now shifts to preparation, with plans to expose athletes to more International Paralympic Committee competitions and elite events to sharpen competitiveness.
President of the Committee, Samson Deen, described the development as a significant step forward for Para sport in Ghana, but stressed that sustained support will be critical.
This is a proud moment for Ghana Para sport. Securing three qualification slots in Para Athletics reflects the dedication and hard work of our athletes, coaches, and support teams.
We are grateful to the Ghana Olympic Committee for their continued support. Our focus now is to ensure the athletes are well prepared to compete strongly and make Ghana proud,” he said.
The committee is urging the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and other stakeholders to invest more in training, exposure, and high-performance programmes, as it looks to turn qualification into podium success.
