Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams

Ghana’s search for a new head coach is nearing its conclusion, with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams confirming that an appointment for the Ghana national football team will be made by Friday or, at the latest, Monday.

Speaking in a yet to be aired  interview on Channel One TV’s Upside Down show, the minister revealed that discussions are in their final stages, with only a few candidates left to engage before a decision is reached.

“Hopefully, if by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, latest by Monday, we should be able to announce our new coach. We’ve come very far. They still have just a few more to talk to,” he said.
“Between Friday and Monday, we should be able to let you know.

Race Against Time

The urgency surrounding the appointment is heightened by the proximity of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with less than 70 days remaining before Ghana’s campaign begins.

Despite the looming tournament, the Black Stars are currently without a head coach raising concerns among fans and pundits about the team’s readiness.

Several high-profile names have been linked to the role, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos, all of whom bring significant international experience.

Preparation Still Ongoing

Kofi Adams admitted that Ghana are not yet fully prepared for the World Cup, largely due to the absence of a head coach, but expressed confidence that the situation will be resolved in time.

“If I tell you that we are ready today, we don’t even have a head coach. So it means that we are not fully ready yet,” he stated.
“But I see us being ready by the time it’s time for us to play our first game… we should still be hopeful.”

The minister struck an optimistic tone, suggesting that while the current squad may not have the same cohesion as previous generations, it still possesses the quality to make a deep run.

“We may not have the best of players as we had maybe in some time past… but we still have what it takes for us to go very, very far.

Friendlies Key to Fine-Tuning

As part of their preparations, the Black Stars are scheduled to play two international friendlies against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team.

These matches are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the squad and building momentum ahead of the World Cup.

Decision Time for Ghana

With the countdown ticking, all eyes are now on the Ghana Football Association and the Sports Ministry to deliver a decisive appointment.

The next few days could define Ghana’s World Cup journey because in modern football, preparation is everything, and time is quickly running out.
