Ghana forward Shakur Mohammed marked his long-awaited breakthrough with his first Major League Soccer (MLS) goal, scoring on his debut league appearance for Nashville SC in a 2-0 win over Atlanta United FC.

The 22-year-old Right to Dream Academy product found the net in a result that keeps Nashville top of the Eastern Conference. The victory also comes on the back of the club securing a place in the semi-final of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Drafted second overall by Orlando City SC in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, Mohammed was tipped for a strong start but struggled to settle, leading to his move to Nashville this season.

Speaking to the club’s media after the game, Mohammed reflected on the emotion of finally scoring his first MLS goal.

“It’s been a build-up of emotions. I’ve had a hard past three years since I started playing pro and I felt this moment was coming. [Scoring the goal] was a moment of embracing and showing gratitude for the team.”
