FIFA-ranked Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has been left out of the list of officials selected to officiate at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature 48 nations from June 11 to July 19. Ghana has secured qualification and will compete in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. Top Premier League referees Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor headline the list of selected officials.

Seven referees from Africa, including Amine Mohammed of Egypt, have been named in the 50-man roster. Despite his standing as Ghana’s most prominent referee, Laryea misses out on selection, according to reports by Yahoo Sports.

Brazil leads all nations with nine officials selected, comprising three central referees and six assistant referees.

Daniel Laryea recently took charge of Nigeria’s semi-final clash against Morocco at the 2025 AFCON, a performance that sharply divided opinion.

In the final of the same tournament, Jean-Jacques Ndala officiated the game between Morocco and Senegal, drawing widespread criticism for his display.
