The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Richmond Kpotosu, has raised fresh concerns over the state of the Ho Youth Resource Centre, revealing that the abandoned facility was at one point reduced to a space for animal rearing due to prolonged delays in its completion.

His comments come amid growing national concerns about stalled youth infrastructure projects, following remarks by George Opare Addo, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, who recently highlighted funding challenges affecting such projects across the country.

Facility Left to Deteriorate

Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News, the Ho Central MP painted a worrying picture of neglect at the facility, attributing its poor condition to years of abandonment.

“It would be for them to come and complete this, which I’m doing. They use, that youth resource centre as last month, Stone Boy came to have a performance over there. But before then we were rearing some animals there because it had become bushy. Because it has been left there uncompleted.”

Despite occasional use of the centre for public events, including a recent performance, the MP insisted that the overall condition of the facility remains unacceptable.

If you are creating something and you’re going to have an event, make sure you put that thing in the best of shape, so that when you have the event, the thing stays.

When we were going to host the Independence march there, they should have completed that whole youth centre. But they did something to represent something, and that was all. But it’s in a bad state, as you say. It’s in a bad state.”

Funding Challenges Behind Delays

The situation reflects broader issues affecting youth development infrastructure in Ghana. Minister George Opare Addo had earlier warned that several youth centres across the country have stalled due to funding gaps.

He attributed the delays to the exclusion of key agencies such as the National Youth Authority (NYA) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) from the 2026 District Assemblies Common Fund allocation formula ;  a move that has significantly impacted project financing.

MP Pushing for Completion

Despite the challenges, Richmond Kpotosu says he is actively working to ensure the project is completed, emphasizing his role as a facilitator rather than a direct financier.

“As MP, my duty is to lobby for them to come and complete this, which I’m doing. But there is no money sitting anywhere

Call for Urgent Intervention

The MP’s remarks highlight the urgent need for intervention to prevent further deterioration of the facility, which was originally intended to serve as a hub for youth development in the Ho municipality.

With the structure already showing signs of neglect and underutilisation, stakeholders are now under pressure to address funding bottlenecks and ensure the project is completed to serve its intended purpose.

For residents, the hope remains that the Ho Youth Resource Centre will finally transition from an abandoned structure into a fully functional space for empowerment and development.
