The Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee has handed Asante Kotoko SC goalkeeper Mohamed Camara a five-match suspension and a GHS 20,000 fine following misconduct during a heated Ghana Premier League clash.
The sanctions stem from Kotoko’s Matchday 25 defeat to Karela United FC at the Tamale Sports Stadium on March 8, 2026.
In a tension-filled encounter that ended 1-0 in favour of Karela United, Kotoko were already under pressure after being reduced to ten men in the first half.
The situation escalated after the final whistle, when Camara was found to have:
- Used abusive language toward the referee
- Physically assaulted the match official
GFA Verdict: Guilty on All Charges
In its official ruling released on April 21, the Ghana Football Association confirmed the goalkeeper was guilty of unsporting conduct and assault.

“Mohamed Camara… has been handed a five (5) match ban, fined GHS 20,000, and formally warned… for misconduct following their Ghana Premier League game.”
The disciplinary body emphasized that the punishment takes immediate effect, meaning the shot-stopper will miss Kotoko’s upcoming fixtures.
Beyond the suspension and fine, Camara has also received a final warning from the FA.
“Any future misconduct will attract more severe sanctions.”
Failure to pay the fine within 14 days could trigger additional disciplinary action.

The absence of Mohamed Camara is a significant setback for Asante Kotoko SC as they navigate a crucial phase of the season.
Losing a first-choice goalkeeper for five matches could:
- Disrupt defensive stability
- Force tactical reshuffling
- Impact their league momentum
The decision sends a strong message from the Ghana Football Association on discipline and respect for match officials.
In a league where tensions often run high, this ruling underlines a zero-tolerance stance on abuse and physical confrontation.
For Kotoko, attention now turns to:
- How they cope without their first-choice keeper
- Whether Camara responds positively after his suspension
