Administrative Manager of Ghana Premier League side Hohoe United, Yussif Uthman, has alleged that there is a deliberate attempt by the managers of the League to frustrate the club.
His comments follow the club’s decision to withdraw from the remainder of the league season, citing concerns over unfair officiating, alleged manipulation in the selection of match officials, and what the team describes as consistent challenges since their debut campaign.

In an interview with CitiSports on Thursday, April 2, 2026, Yussif Uthman stated that the club believes it has become a target, which informed their decision to discontinue playing in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Nobody has communicated anything from the FA, so we’ve not heard anything, from the appeal we submitted to the FA and the stay of execution of the ruling we submitted.
And that is why even our last home game against Dreams FC, we had to play it away from home despite, our appeal and then the stay of execution we filed, with the appropriate quarters.
Then the, the other one is, you know, this has been building right from the start of the season.
The biases in terms of officiating, the way and manner, referees are appointed for our games and all that. But at the right time, we’ll issue an elaborate press release to, to state some of these factors.
But for now, I think the system is selective in terms of the justice system, and we believe there’s a deliberate attempt to, to see us go through, difficulties in a league that has to provide level playing field for all its in class.
We feel we have become a target and by so doing, we, think the best decision is to, to exit the competition, and then wish them well, for the final few games of the season” he said.
The decision by Hohoe United was reportedly taken on April 1, 2026, following an emergency meeting involving the club’s board and management, and has sparked widespread debate and could trigger serious consequences under the Ghana Football Association (GFA) regulations.
Under the GFA’s disciplinary framework, specifically Act 13 (Withdrawal of Clubs from Competitions/Matches), any club that withdraws from a competition after fixtures have been published or the season has commenced—without just cause—may be deemed guilty of misconduct.
As a result:
- The GFA may compel the club to refund any expenses incurred due to the withdrawal.
- The Disciplinary Committee could impose sanctions, including demotion or bans.
- Club officials may face suspensions from football-related activities for a specified period.
- The club could be barred from participating in future competitions for multiple seasons.
- All remaining fixtures may be declared forfeits, with three points and three goals awarded to their opponents.
