GCB Bank has donated GH¢5 million to support the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the latest corporate institution to back Ghana’s campaign for the global showpiece.

The donation was presented to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams by the board chair of the bank, Joshua Alarbi during a presentation ceremony.

The contribution adds to growing financial support from corporate Ghana and private stakeholders as the country steps up preparations for the tournament, which will be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico.

In recent weeks, Engineers & Planners, owned by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, pledged 2 million already paid into the official fundraising account.

Stanbic Bank Ghana has also committed GH¢3 million to support the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign. Newmont Ghana also supported the campaign with $500,000.

Government has assured transparency in the handling of all contributions, with the Ministry of Finance confirming that donations are being paid directly into the official 2026 World Cup Fundraising Account at the Bank of Ghana.

The Black Stars, under head coach Carlos Queiroz, are preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
