The Ghana Olympic Committee officially launched its “Ghana House” project for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2026 on Wednesday in Accra, positioning the initiative as a cultural, hospitality, and trade diplomacy platform that extends beyond sport.

The Commonwealth Sports Federation of Ghana staged the media launch at the Ange Hill Hotel.

Former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, performed the ceremony on behalf of Julius Debrah, stating that Ghana’s presence in Glasgow would showcase the country’s fashion, food, and culture alongside its athletes.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams described the Ghana House as Ghana’s official hospitality and marketing hub in Glasgow, designed to attract business opportunities while supporting Team Ghana throughout the Games.

He stressed that the event carries long-term benefits for investment, tourism, and diplomacy beyond medal success.

“When athletes win, Ghana wins.

Let’s place athletes at the center,” Adams said.

President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, Ghana and the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie, expressed confidence that Ghana would return from Glasgow with medals, investment opportunities, and expanded partnerships.

Chairman of the Ghana House Committee, Kobi Wowome, explained the concept behind the initiative, describing it as a hospitality and commercial platform aimed at delivering tangible benefits for Ghana beyond the competition itself.

Meanwhile, Ernest Danso said preparations remain focused on athlete welfare, intensive training, and pre-Games camping, with a clear ambition of improving Ghana’s medal tally.

The Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council is also expected to use the Games to strengthen trade and investment relations between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Representing the British High Commission, Hooman Nouruzi reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, and Director General of the National Sports Authority of Ghana, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, were among the dignitaries present at the launch.

Team Ghana is expected to compete in 10 sports at the Games, including athletics, swimming, 3×3 basketball, track cycling, weightlifting, lawn bowls, gymnastics, netball, and judo.

The XXIII Commonwealth Games 2026 will run from July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.
