President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku has reiterated his stance that players of Ghanaian descent should choose to represent Ghana at the international level.
Speaking to Sky Sports during a visit to the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom, he said Ghana should be prioritised in international representation.
“Full-blooded Ghanaians should be representing their countries. That’s my clear opinion on representation when it comes to national teams in football,” he said.

Okraku added that Ghana can still compete with top sides such as England, despite the growing number of dual nationals eligible for both countries.

“I think that England has a good team. We must respect the manager and the experience that he brings on board,” he said. “But what is also true is that they will meet a very, very competitive and determined Ghanaian side,” Kurt Okraku said
He also pointed to the wider debate around players born or raised in Europe but eligible to represent African nations, using France as an example.

“I wish I had never commented on such situations because, for example, when I watched the French national team win the World Cup,” he said, adding that the side was made up of players of African descent. “It always tells me there’s a subject that has to be discussed,” he said.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about players such as Kobbie Mainoo, who is eligible for Ghana but represents England, Jeremy Doku, who represents Belgium, Nico Williams, who plays for Spain, and Kevin Danso, who plays for Austria, as well as other dual-national players across Europe.
