Denmark and the football world were left stunned after Christian Eriksen collapsed during Sunday’s international friendly against Ukraine in Odense, forcing the match to be abandoned.

The 34-year-old midfielder reportedly grabbed his chest before falling to the ground in the 65th minute, immediately prompting concern among players, coaches and supporters.

In scenes reminiscent of his collapse during the 2021 European Championship, Denmark and Ukraine players quickly formed a protective circle around Eriksen while medical staff rushed onto the pitch to provide treatment.

Fortunately, Denmark’s medical team later confirmed that the midfielder regained consciousness quickly and is recovering well.

National team doctor Morten Boesen, who was also involved in Eriksen’s life-saving treatment in 2021, provided a reassuring update on Monday.

“Christian is doing well and walked off the pitch by himself. As I see it, the pacemaker responded as it should.”

Boesen added that Eriksen was only briefly unconscious before regaining awareness and communicating with medical staff.

“He will undergo further examinations at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. But Christian is doing well and asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them he was OK.”

The Danish Football Association also confirmed that Eriksen was in good spirits and expected to be discharged soon.

“I spoke with Christian this morning and he is doing well. He is with family and in good spirits.”

The incident understandably shook both teams.

Denmark captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg admitted the players were left in shock after witnessing the collapse.

“You get a shock. The most important thing is that Christian is doing well.”

Several Danish players were visibly emotional as medical personnel attended to Eriksen, while players and staff from both nations later stood together in a show of solidarity after the match was abandoned.

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer praised the response from everyone involved and emphasized that the team’s focus remains firmly on Eriksen’s health.

“The most important thing is that Christian is doing well. He has left the field and sent his regards to the players.”

Further medical tests are expected to determine the exact cause of the incident. For now, the encouraging news is that Eriksen is conscious, communicating with family and teammates, and recovering under medical supervision.
