Ghanaian swimmer Abeku Jackson continued his impressive campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games by setting a new national record in the men’s 50m butterfly, despite narrowly missing out on the final.

Jackson clocked 24.03 seconds in the heats to break Ghana’s national record, but his time was not enough to earn a place in the final.

The performance marks his second national record of the Games. Earlier in the competition, the 26-year-old set a new Ghana record in the men’s 50m backstroke, clocking 26.48 seconds to improve on the previous national mark of 26.84 seconds. He finished seventh in his heat and narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals.

Jackson continues to cement his status as Ghana’s leading swimmer. A two time Olympian, he represented the country at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and has won multiple medals at the African Championships and African Games. He also reached the semi-finals of the men’s 50m and 100m butterfly at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Although he did not reach the 50m butterfly final, Jackson leaves Glasgow with two national records, highlighting his consistency on the international stage and providing another boost for Ghanaian swimming.
