Team Ghana will continue its medal chase at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, July 29, with four athletes competing in boxing and athletics in Glasgow.

The biggest opportunities come in the boxing ring, where Desmond Pappoe and Precious Akai Nertey will fight for places in the semi-finals. A victory in their quarter-final bouts would guarantee each boxer at least a bronze medal.

Pappoe faces Canada’s Joshua Ofori in the men’s 80kg quarter-finals, while Akai Nertey takes on Mauritius’ Merven Clair in the men’s 70kg quarter-finals.

Ghana’s boxing team has enjoyed mixed fortunes so far. Amadu Mohammed advanced to the men’s 55kg semi-finals after defeating England’s Ellis Trowbridge on Monday, July 28, keeping his medal hopes alive. Jibril Muntari, however, exited the competition after losing his quarter-final bout to Northern Ireland’s Garyn McAllister.

On the track, Joseph Paul Amoah will begin his men’s 200m campaign. The Tokyo 2020 Olympian and national 4x100m relay team member has a personal best of 20.08 seconds and will be aiming for a place in the next round.

Anita Afrifa will also compete in the women’s 200m, hoping to produce one of her best performances of the season and progress through the heats.

Team Ghana will be looking to build on Zinabu Issah’s silver medal in the women’s Shot Put F57 and add to the country’s medal tally as the Games continue.
