Ghana’s women’s boxing campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games ended on Sunday after Nancy Bamfo and Adelaide Dede Abaitey were both eliminated in the round of 16.

Bamfo lost 5-0 to Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde in the women’s 54kg division in a bout that featured three knockdowns.

Clyde was knocked down in the opening round but recovered to take control of the contest. Bamfo was floored twice in the third round as the Northern Irish boxer claimed a unanimous decision to advance to the quarterfinals.

In the women’s 57kg division, Commonwealth Games debutant Adelaide Dede Abaitey also exited after a 5-0 defeat to Fiji’s Jasmine Daunakamakama.

Abaitey struggled in the second round, suffering two knockdowns as Duanakamakama cruised to a unanimous points victory and a place in the last eight. The two defeats end Ghana’s women’s boxing campaign before the quarterfinal stage.

Ghana’s medal hopes now rest with Amadu Mohammed, who reached the men’s 55kg quarterfinals after a first-round Referee Stops Contest (RSC) victory over Kiribati’s Eriu Temakau. The African Games champion needed just 1 minute, 54 seconds to seal his place in the last eight and move a step closer to a medal.
